Kotdwar – A disagreement that began with a social‑media post quickly escalated into a physical altercation between Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local businessman Sanjeev Tank. CCTV footage from the vicinity shows the dispute moving from heated words to pushing and shoving.
Traders Converge on Kotwali
When the video went public, a group of traders and labourers affiliated with the BJP flocked to the Kotdwar Kotwali police station. The crowd raised slogans and pressed authorities for immediate action against the alleged offender.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To prevent the situation from spiralling further, police officials placed Deepak Kumar in preventive custody. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur said the detention was based on a formal complaint filed by Sanjeev Tank.
According to the ASP, Kumar will be produced before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court as part of the regular legal process, and no individual will be permitted to take the law into their own hands.
Legal Warning Issued
Police officials warned that anyone attempting to disturb public order or engage in unlawful conduct will face appropriate legal consequences.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are reviewing the CCTV recordings and the lodged complaint to piece together the exact sequence of events. Further action will be taken in line with legal provisions once the investigation is complete.
