Dehradun, Uttarakhand – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked the International Day of Older Persons on Thursday with a high‑profile ceremony at the Himalayan Cultural Centre in Neembuwala. The event featured the launch of a new civil‑services coaching programme specially designed for persons with disabilities, alongside a tribute to senior citizens who have contributed significantly to the state.

New Coaching Initiative for Differently‑Abled Aspirants

The government‑backed scheme aims to provide free, structured training to disabled candidates who wish to appear for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other prestigious examinations. Dhami announced that experienced faculty, adaptive study material, and accessible classroom facilities would be made available at the centre, ensuring an inclusive preparation environment.

Recognition of Young Talent

Five bright students who excelled in essay‑writing and painting contests were also felicitated. Their achievements were highlighted as a testament to the state’s commitment to nurturing talent across all sections of society.

₹147.34 Crore Pension Transfer – A One‑Click Milestone

In a parallel announcement, the chief minister oversaw the disbursement of pension payments for September through a streamlined single‑click portal. A total of 9,93,886 pensioners received ₹147 crore 34 lakh 53 thousand under the scheme, marking one of the largest digital payouts in the state’s history.

Commitment to Senior Citizens

During the ceremony, Dhami pledged renewed support for the elderly and planted a sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, symbolising growth and care. He addressed the gathering with heartfelt wishes, stating:

“Our senior citizens are the protective shield of families, imparting values, discipline and emotional warmth to younger generations.”
