Statewide effort to recover 1.9 million missing voters
The Election Department of Chhattisgarh has kicked off a month‑long door‑to‑door operation aimed at tracking down eligible residents whose names were stripped from the electoral list after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Spanning all 90 Assembly constituencies, the drive targets roughly 1.9 million individuals for fresh registration.
Why names vanished in the first place
During the SIR sweep, about 2.5 million entries were deleted from the state’s voter database. Approximately 600,000 of those belonged to deceased persons, while nearly 1.9 million were removed for reasons such as incomplete paperwork or failure to appear for verification. The current initiative focuses on this latter group, offering them a second chance to be listed.
How the ground‑level operation will work
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct systematic house‑to‑house visits. Their responsibilities include pinpointing households where eligible adults were missed, helping them complete the necessary documentation, and guiding the submission of Form 6 to request inclusion in the electoral roll.
No need for 2003 roll information
Applicants under this special re‑enrolment scheme are not required to produce details from the 2003 electoral roll. They must, however, present the standard documents prescribed for voter registration, and BLOs will clarify exactly what is needed.
First‑time voters are also in focus
The campaign is not limited to those previously on the roll. Young citizens who have recently attained voting age will be identified and encouraged to file Form 6 as well. BLOs are tasked with spotting these new electors during their field visits.
Goal: accurate and inclusive voter lists
The department aims to complete the re‑enrolment process before the official roll is published, ensuring that no eligible resident is unintentionally omitted. By merging thorough field verification with streamlined paperwork, the drive seeks to make Chhattisgarh’s electoral rolls both precise and comprehensive.
