Lucknow — Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath applauded the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, describing it as a cornerstone for a stronger democratic process.

Why a Precise Voter Register Matters

The premier stressed that an accurate voter list is the foundation of any free and fair election. He urged the removal of entries belonging to deceased persons, permanent migrants, or duplicate records, in accordance with the established legal framework.

Encouraging First‑Time Voters

Adityanath turned his focus to the nation’s newest electors, urging anyone who is about to turn 18 or has recently done so to verify their names on the roll. He argued that heightened participation from the youth will deepen democratic engagement.

The SIR Drive Under Political Scrutiny

The revision campaign has attracted criticism, with opposition parties, student bodies, and civil‑society groups warning that legitimate voters might be unintentionally omitted. The Election Commission, however, has rejected these accusations, insisting that the exercise follows transparent, statutory procedures.

Call for Public Participation

Wrapping up his address, the UP chief minister appealed to citizens to assist in building a clean, robust, and transparent voter register, positioning the SIR as a pivotal element of India’s democratic architecture.
