Ghazipur – A joint operation by the district’s SWAT team and Kotwali police resulted in the detention of three locals accused of transporting a sizable cache of contraband weapons into the city.

Massive Arms Seizure

The raid took place close to Kaithwalia Pulia, where law‑enforcement agents uncovered a stockpile of 38 firearms. The haul included 19 pistols, 19 country‑made guns and 18 cartridges. Officers also confiscated three mobile phones, a motorcycle and a modest cash amount of ₹900.

Fleeing Suspects Cornered

A tip received on Thursday night warned of an imminent weapons drop. Acting on the intelligence, SWAT commander Shailendra Pratap Singh and Crime Inspector Devendra Kumar Mishra sealed off the area. When the three men on the motorcycle realized they were being monitored, they attempted to flee, but the rapid‑response unit had already encircled the location, compelling them to surrender peacefully.

Further Leads and Ongoing Raids

All three detainees are residents of Ghazipur and are believed to be part of an interstate smuggling ring that sources arms from Khandwa and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh. Interrogations revealed the existence of two additional accomplices. Police have launched raids in nearby villages to apprehend the remaining members and dismantle the wider network.

The arrests form a key component of a district‑wide crackdown on illegal weapons, directed by the police chief, aimed at halting the flow of unregistered firearms across state borders.
