New Delhi. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the official calendar for the biennial elections to 28 Legislative Council seats in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The poll will be conducted on 23 October 2026 and the counting of votes is slated for 27 October 2026.
According to the schedule, the election notification will be issued on 29 September 2026. Prospective candidates may submit their nomination papers up to 6 October 2026. Voting hours are fixed from 8 am to 4 pm on the polling day.
Why These Seats Are Up for Election
The current members’ terms are expiring in the coming months. Bihar will see eight seats become vacant in November, Karnataka four seats in the same month, while Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh have five and eleven seats respectively that will lapse in December.
