Swiss President Guy Parmelin will land in Noida on Tuesday, marking the first leg of his three‑day official visit to India. He is slated to spend roughly two and a half hours touring the brand‑new Noida International Airport at Jewar.
The president is expected on the tarmac at about 11:30 a.m. and will remain on site until around 2 p.m., during which he will be escorted through the passenger and cargo terminals, hold a discussion with senior airport executives, and receive a briefing on the project's timeline and operational strategy.
The Jewar venture is being driven by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, the Swiss operator of Zurich Airport. Parmelin will be presented with an in‑depth overview of the partnership and will inspect the ongoing construction.
First state aircraft to land at Jewar
Airport officials say the Swiss leader’s plane will be the inaugural international flight carrying a head of state to touch down on the runway. Although cargo aircraft from Russia and China landed during the recent BRICS summit, Parmelin’s arrival marks a symbolic milestone for the fledgling hub.
During the stop, the president will also meet the Swiss engineers and project managers stationed at the site. The delegation will be briefed on passenger amenities, cargo handling, cutting‑edge technology, and the overall operational model envisioned for the airport.
Business and technology ties take centre stage
Parmelin’s trip to India coincides with a surge in economic and technological dialogue between the two nations. The agenda includes talks on trade, investment, education, research and innovation.
Accompanying the president are senior Swiss business leaders and academic representatives, turning the Jewar visit into a showcase for deeper collaboration between Indian and Swiss enterprises.
Airport gearing up for global traffic
Noida International Airport has already launched commercial flights and is preparing for a broader slate of international services. The Swiss team’s assessment of the passenger and cargo infrastructure will be crucial as the airport aspires to become a key aviation hub for the National Capital Region.
Heightened security measures have been put in place ahead of the presidential landing, with multiple layers of protection and dedicated traffic routes to ensure a smooth flow for the entourage.
The high‑profile visit highlights Switzerland’s stake in the Jewar project and opens another channel for India‑Switzerland cooperation across business, infrastructure, technology and investment.
