Anantnag: The Jammu and Kashmir police have registered a case against National Conference legislator Altaf Ahmad Wani, popularly known as Altaf Kaloo, and party spokesperson Umesh Bhat. The FIR originates from a complaint lodged by the MLA’s Personal Security Officer (PSO).
The report was logged at Sadar Anantnag Police Station under Sections 121 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are now examining the facts surrounding the allegation.
Dispute Said to Have Ignited During a Security Detail
According to the PSO’s statement, a verbal confrontation broke out while he was on duty protecting the legislator. The argument allegedly escalated, leading the officer to allege that Kaloo and Bhat physically assaulted him.
The officer further asserted that he sustained injuries, prompting him to file the complaint and trigger the FIR.
The matter remains under investigation, and no court has yet ruled on the accusations.
MLA Denies the Charges
Altaf Kaloo has categorically rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless. He said he raised concerns with security officials after noticing that the PSO had been absent from his post for several days.
Kaloo claims he informed the Senior Superintendent of Police (Security) and requested verification. He contends that the officer responded by pushing him during the ensuing clash.
The legislator has appealed to senior police leadership, including the IGP of Kashmir and the SSP of Anantnag, to conduct a neutral inquiry.
Police Weigh Both Narratives
The FIR presents two conflicting versions of the incident. The PSO alleges he was attacked while performing his duties; Kaloo, on the other hand, offers a contrary account of the encounter.
Kaloo has hinted at filing a counter‑complaint against the officer and urges investigators to scrutinise statements and evidence before proceeding further.
Authorities have opened a formal probe to establish the exact circumstances of the reported clash and to ascertain the factual matrix of the case.
It is crucial to remember that an FIR merely records a complaint; it does not imply guilt. Any subsequent legal action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
