Attempted Abduction at Galleria Market
On 21 September, a routine stop at Galleria Market turned perilous for 23‑year‑old Sahil Arora. After parking his car and stepping into a coffee shop, he returned to discover three unknown individuals already inside his vehicle, one of whom brandished a pistol and ordered Sahil to drive them away.
Quick Thinking Saves the Victim
When the gun failed to discharge, Sahil seized the chance, gunned the engine, and forced the front‑seat assailant to flee the car. The two occupants in the back leapt out as the vehicle accelerated, melting into the surrounding traffic.
A few moments later, a scooter forced Sahil to stop. The remaining gunman escaped, leaving the firearm behind. Investigators later retrieved the pistol from the car as part of the case file.
Police Response and Arrests
The following day, Sahil filed a complaint at the Sector‑29 police station. The Crime Branch of Sector‑43 immediately opened an investigation, leading to the identification and arrest of five suspects:
- Praveen – resident of Sector‑67, Gurugram
- Sumer Singh – Lakshman Vihar, Gurugram
- Shiv Shankar – Vaidharm Colony, Faridabad
- Aman – Meethapur, Delhi
- Hemant – Meethapur, Delhi
All five individuals were taken into custody while detectives pieced together each person’s alleged role in the kidnapping plot.
Commission Conflict as the Motive
According to ACP Naveen Sharma, the entire episode stemmed from a property‑commission dispute. Praveen had assisted Sahil’s father in closing a deal, only to see the transaction completed by another party, leaving Praveen without the commission he expected.
Police contend that this financial grievance drove Praveen to collaborate with Sumer Singh, hoping to coerce Sahil’s father into paying the outstanding amount and to halt the subsequent sale.
GPS Tracking and Pre‑Planned Execution
Investigators uncovered that Praveen had earlier fitted a GPS tracker onto Sahil’s car, enabling the conspirators to monitor his movements in real time. The duo reportedly traveled from Nuh with the weapon, recruiting Shiv Shankar, Aman and Hemant to carry out the scheme.
The ultimate aim was to force Sahil’s father to settle the commission claim by leveraging the threat of abduction.
Continued Probe
Authorities are preparing to present the detained suspects before a magistrate. Further interrogations will focus on the depth of the conspiracy, the source of the firearm, and the precise involvement of each accused party.
