Upcoming Weather Situation

The state’s meteorological agency has issued a yellow warning for Uttarakhand covering the period from October 6 to October 11. During these days the mountainous regions will encounter a blend of rainfall, thunder, and even snowfall at the highest altitudes, while the low‑lying plains are likely to remain largely dry.

Snowfall Forecast

Weather Director Dr. C.S. Tomar indicated that snow is expected to start in areas above 4,200 metres between October 6 and 8. From October 9 through 11 the snow‑covered zone should slip down to roughly 3,800 metres, ushering a noticeable chill across the upper reaches.

Hill Districts Under Yellow Alert

Seven hill districts have been placed under special caution:

  • Chamoli
  • Nainital
  • Pithoragarh
  • Bageshwar
  • Almora
  • Rudraprayag
  • Uttarkashi

These locales may experience gusty breezes of 30‑40 km/h, frequent thunderstorms and a heightened risk of lightning.

Rainfall and Thunderstorm Outlook

Scattered to moderate rain is forecast for several mountain stretches, accompanied by occasional gusts, thunder and lightning. The department also anticipates moderate precipitation on October 6‑7 for Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri, with thunderstorms likely to accompany the showers.

Temperature Changes

As snow settles on higher ground, temperatures will drop markedly in those zones. In contrast, the lower‑lying plains should enjoy relatively milder and drier weather throughout the alert period.
