Dehradun – On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026 was officially kicked off at Graphic Era University, aiming to marshal technology against the state’s distinct geographic and social hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology, and Biotechnology, and attracted roughly 500 participants including students, faculty, industry experts and budding innovators.
The three‑month marathon is designed to fuse youthful technical talent with real‑world problems faced by Uttarakhand. Participants will concentrate on sectors such as disaster mitigation, traffic and crowd control, health‑care outreach, environmental stewardship, wildlife preservation, tourism promotion, and transparent governance.
Key solution streams will explore artificial intelligence, data analytics, geographic information systems (GIS) and drone technology to modernise public services. Themes include AI‑powered knowledge bases for government, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enhanced GIS mapping, environmental impact analytics, AI‑driven preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and aerial monitoring via drones.
Minister Batra emphasised that Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions possess the creativity needed to devise home‑grown remedies for the state’s unique issues. He urged innovators to channel their skills toward practical outcomes that improve citizens’ daily lives.
The hackathon will progress through distinct phases: problem scoping and idea generation, prototype creation, mentorship from domain experts, and rigorous evaluation. Winning concepts will be fast‑tracked into pilot deployments, incubation programmes, and industry partnerships.
Specific focus areas include forecasting traffic loads during peak pilgrim and tourist seasons, monitoring ecological stress, pinpointing disaster‑prone zones, and bolstering emergency response capabilities. Solutions will also target the delivery of government services to remote mountainous communities.
Organisers stress that the competition will prioritise citizen‑centric, responsible innovation. The event is orchestrated by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a host of academic, governmental and ecosystem stakeholders. Its overarching goal is to nurture locally‑crafted technological answers by fostering collaboration among universities, state departments, the tech community and young creators.
