Targeted Outreach to Retrieve Missing Electors

After the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) wrapped up, the election apparatus in Uttar Pradesh has launched a dedicated drive aimed at identifying and re‑adding eligible citizens whose names were inadvertently left out of the latest electoral roll.

Matching Pre‑SIR and Current Lists

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are now visiting residences to compare the pre‑SIR register with the updated roll. Anyone who appears on the older list but is missing from the current one will be contacted, their details verified, and instructed to file Form 6 for inclusion.

First‑Time Voters in Focus

A special emphasis is placed on young adults turning 18 for the first time. BLOs have been assigned to reach approximately 20‑25 new voters each week, with the goal of completing this segment within a month.

To simplify registration for marginalized sections, temporary camps will be established at the booth level. Particular attention will be given to occupants of night shelters, labour colonies, the homeless, and other socially vulnerable groups. Awareness activities will be coordinated through schools, local NGOs, and the SVEEP programme.

Layered Monitoring and Transparency

The Chief Electoral Officer has directed district officials and registration officers to track progress continuously. Updates will be reviewed at state, district and booth tiers, with a strict one‑month deadline for completing household‑level verification.

Why This Initiative Is Critical

The Election Commission has instructed states that have concluded the SIR to undertake corrective measures, ensuring that every eligible voter—whether previously missed or newly eligible—gets a chance to register.
