Karachi – On Monday night a Hindu shrine located in the isolated hamlet of Rathi, close to Nagarparkar in Sindh, was forcibly entered and defaced. The temple’s caretaker found broken statues the following morning and immediately alerted the local police.

Suspect taken into custody

Shiva Kaachi, head of the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad non‑governmental organization, confirmed that law‑enforcement officials have detained a man believed to be the main offender. No further details about the individual’s identity or the exact reasons for his arrest have been disclosed.

Temple’s significance in a Hindu‑dense region

Although modest in size, the Mata Jog Maya Temple is one of numerous small worship places scattered across villages surrounding Nagarparkar, an area with a substantial Hindu population. These shrines act as focal points for daily prayers, festivals and community gatherings.

Investigation continues

Investigators are cataloguing the extent of the destruction and assessing whether the act was carried out by a lone individual or a larger group. The police are collecting forensic evidence, interviewing locals and reviewing surveillance material to piece together the incident.

Recent comparable attacks

Earlier this year the Kali Mata Temple in Hyderabad’s Fateh Chowk district suffered a similar act of vandalism, sparking protests and road blockades by the city’s Hindu community. These recurring assaults have reignited fears about the protection of minority religious sites throughout Sindh.
