Incident Summary

In the early hours of Tuesday, 6 October 2026, a pickup loaded with fresh milk from Lalkuan veered off the Nainital‑Kainchi road and tumbled into the steep gorge adjacent to the Kainchi Dham temple. The vehicle, bearing registration UK04 CC 3465, left the pavement at roughly 02:00 hrs, leaving its three occupants injured.

Immediate Villager Intervention

Before the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) could reach the site, nearby residents hurried to the scene, pulled the truck’s occupants from the ravine, and administered first aid. Their swift action is credited with averting a potentially fatal outcome while rescue units were on their way.

Official Rescue Effort

The SDRF team from the Khairna post, under Sub‑Inspector Devendra Singh, arrived shortly thereafter and coordinated with district police to secure the area. Together they performed a thorough sweep of the gorge and surrounding slopes to verify that no other victims were trapped.

Once the zone was declared clear, the three injured parties were handed over to medical personnel and dispatched by ambulance to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Victims’ Profile

The occupants were identified as Ankit Singh, 33, the driver known as Bobby, and a ten‑year‑old boy, Mohammad Saqib. All sustained injuries that required hospitalisation, but their conditions were reported as stable after receiving care.

Ongoing Investigation

SDRF officers and police continue to examine the crash site and the adjacent terrain to establish the cause of the truck’s departure from the road. Findings will be released as the probe progresses.
