Homs, Syria – A passenger bus traveling close to the Masyaf Bridge in the western countryside of Homs was ambushed by gunfire, leaving at least seven dead and four wounded. The vehicle was carrying employees of a local firm who were heading home after a full day’s work.

Syria’s state news agency SANA said the assailants remain unidentified. The injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals, while security forces moved in to secure the area.

Investigation Launched

Authorities have opened a formal inquiry to determine who ordered the attack and why. No group or individual has claimed responsibility, and officials have not publicly identified any suspects.

“We view this strike as an attempt to destabilise the region and undermine security,” said Brigadier General Bassem Mohammad Shaaban, commander of Homs Internal Security Forces.

Forensic teams are collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

Workers Targeted While Heading Home

Initial reports confirm the bus was transporting civilian workers back to their homes after completing their duties. Emergency responders rushed the casualties to hospitals throughout the Homs area for treatment.

Officials stressed that the investigation will continue until the full circumstances are clarified and those responsible are brought to justice.

Syria’s Persistent Security Struggles

The attack comes against a backdrop of insecurity that has lingered for more than 13 years of conflict, even after the fall of Bashar al‑Assad’s government in December 2024. While authorities strive to stabilise the country, sporadic shootings and violent incidents continue to surface across various provinces.
