Dehradun – The chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, officially opened a suite of five development schemes worth ₹20.55 crore on the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University campus at Selaqui. The ceremony saw foundation stones laid for three flagship projects valued at ₹20.21 crore and the inauguration of two smaller works totalling ₹34 lakh.

New Infrastructure Takes Shape on Campus

The announced initiatives comprise a modern administrative building, a cutting‑edge amphitheatre and a "Nakshatra Vatika" – a garden designed around celestial constellations. In addition, the chief minister unveiled a revamped main entrance gate and a brand‑new dental hospital equipped with advanced technology.

During the event, CM Dhami offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati and placed flowers before the statue of the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, paying homage to his legacy. He emphasized that the university is a cornerstone for training the next generation of medical professionals and that these new amenities will elevate the academic ambience while catalysing regional growth.

Dhami underscored Uttarakhand’s dedication to producing skilled doctors, nurses and allied‑health workers, noting that the medical fraternity carries a profound social duty – saving lives and restoring hope. He added that compassion, sensitivity and dedication remain the profession’s guiding principles.

The chief minister also disclosed that a proposal for a super‑speciality hospital on the university grounds has been forwarded to the Union Ministry of Health, with further progress hinging on central approval.

Healthcare Network Expands Across the State

Aligning with the national drive for better health services, Uttarakhand is bolstering its own infrastructure. The state currently runs five government medical colleges, two more under construction, alongside nine nursing colleges and three nursing schools.

Super‑speciality facilities are being upgraded at medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar. A high‑tech cancer institute is under development in Haldwani, while district hospitals and community health centres are receiving systematic enhancements.

In Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, a ₹351 crore AIIMS satellite centre is taking shape to deliver world‑class care to a wide catchment area. Tele‑medicine platforms and helicopter ambulance services are further bridging the gap for remote populations, and the government is intensifying recruitment and training of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for its public hospitals.

Uttarakhand Youth Finding Opportunities Abroad

State‑run foreign‑language training programmes are opening pathways to overseas employment. In 2023, sixty candidates secured placements in Japan, while thirteen graduates were recruited by German institutions in 2025. One notable success story is Sapna Rana, who landed a role in Germany after completing German‑language training.

Graduates from Uttarakhand’s institutes are also making their mark in premier Indian establishments such as AIIMS, PGI, Indian Railways and the Military Nursing Service.

Over 35,000 Government Jobs Created in Five Years

Dhami reiterated the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the future of the state’s youth. A stringent anti‑copying law now governs recruitment examinations, ensuring transparency. In the past five years, more than 35,000 young Uttarakhandis have entered government service through merit‑based selections.

Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal affirmed that the government continues to invest in modern infrastructure for medical colleges, guaranteeing high‑quality education and training for students.
