At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, an unidentified group hurled bricks at the Shree Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham Hindu temple in Richmond Heights, Ohio. The projectiles shattered multiple panes of glass and left noticeable damage inside the sanctuary while priests and worshippers were present.
Law Enforcement and Federal Partners Probe the Incident
Local police are meticulously reviewing surveillance footage from the temple to reconstruct the attack and identify the culprits. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) confirmed that the video has been transferred to investigators and that the case has also been forwarded to the FBI and civil‑rights authorities.
To date, no suspect has been publicly named and no arrests have been reported.
Faith Leaders Urge a Fast, Transparent Inquiry
National Hindu bodies, such as the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), have called on officials to act swiftly, demand accountability, and publicly denounce the assault. CoHNA specifically urged Richmond Heights Mayor Kim Thomas and other local leaders to condemn the act and reassure the Hindu community of its safety.
Although some observers suspect a hate‑motivated crime, law enforcement has not yet confirmed any bias motive.
No Injuries Reported Among Worshippers
Despite the chaos, no one was physically harmed. The primary damage consists of broken windows and other property impairments, which temple staff are still cataloguing.
HAF has pressed authorities to locate those responsible and issue a strong public statement against rhetoric that threatens Hindu or Indian‑American communities.
Earlier Vandalism Cases Cited for Context
CoHNA referenced prior vandalism incidents at Hindu temples in New York and California, noting that each case occurred under distinct circumstances. While these episodes raise concerns, they remain separate investigations and do not alone establish a nationwide trend.
The Richmond Heights case remains active as investigators continue to analyze video evidence and pursue leads to determine whether religious bias played a role.
