Muzaffarpur, Bihar – On 15 October, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary officially opened the Mega Footwear and Accessories Park in the Mahwal Industrial Area of Motipur block, marking a pivotal move toward industrial diversification in the state.
Scale and vision of the park
Covering approximately 62 acres, the facility is designed to breathe new life into Bihar’s leather‑and‑footwear ecosystem. Five dedicated leather units are slated to begin operations, collectively expected to create roughly 2,100 jobs for residents of Muzaffarpur and surrounding districts.
Turn‑key infrastructure for rapid entry
The Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) has equipped the park with fully‑fitted, G+2 plug‑and‑play sheds. These ready‑made structures eliminate the usual delays and heavy capital outlay required to set up a plant from scratch, offering a decisive advantage to small and medium‑sized enterprises eager to enter the market quickly.
Common Facility Centre (CFC)
A cornerstone of the project is the Common Facility Centre, stocked with machinery valued at about ₹8.5 crore. The CFC enables budding manufacturers to access high‑end equipment on a pay‑per‑use basis, allowing them to align capital spending directly with production needs.
Inauguration ceremony
The ribbon‑cutting attracted an array of dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Union Ministers Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Rajbhushan Nishad, as well as Vaishali MP Veena Devi. The officials toured the sheds and the CFC, underscoring the park’s potential to spur entrepreneurship in the region.
Security arrangements
Given the high‑profile nature of the event, district authorities imposed a five‑kilometre no‑fly zone around the venue and deployed extensive ground security to ensure a smooth and safe inauguration.
Economic outlook
The park is poised to act as a catalyst for Bihar’s leather and footwear industry by offering modern machinery and ready‑built facilities that lower entry barriers for smaller players. While the full impact will become clear once the factories become operational, early signals point to a substantial boost in local employment and a stronger industrial base for Muzaffarpur.
