Fast‑Tracked Growth and New Standards
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda lauded the meteoric rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, pointing out that the hospital has already outstripped its original plan of 750 beds and now operates with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, it has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty departments, covering everything from complex cardiac catheterisations to cutting‑edge radiotherapy and neurosurgical procedures.
Rising Patient Footfall
The outpatient department (OPD) has logged more than 12 lakh consultations over the last four years, while inpatient admissions have breached the one‑lakh threshold. In the fiscal year 2024‑25 alone, OPD visits exceeded three lakh and diagnostic examinations topped ten lakh, reflecting growing public confidence in the centre’s capabilities.
Academic Achievements and Leadership
AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation marked the graduation of that inaugural batch, a milestone for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who graced the ceremony, urged the new doctors to prioritize service to humanity and to bring quality healthcare to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.
Expanding Clinical Infrastructure
Beyond the swelling bed count, the hospital now delivers a wide array of high‑end interventions: major surgeries, cardiac procedures, dialysis, comprehensive diagnostics, and a dedicated oncology wing. Faculty and staff have been praised for achieving this scale of growth at a speed that usually takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years.
Future Outlook
Minister Nadda expressed firm belief that within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with India’s premier AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centric services is set to solidify its standing as a leading hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
